Razor bumps (and ingrown hairs in general) involve hair being trapped under the skin. Razor bumps are generally the result of poor shaving tools and technique, but you can find out why this happens here. Acne is generally the result of health, genetics, hormones, irritation, or poor hygiene and/or diet. If you only get bumps when you shave, they are likely ingrown hairs/razor bumps. Acne can look similar, so you may have a hard time telling the difference if you are prone to both. You may also have a mixture of both! The good news is, treatment for one can help the other.
We recommend washing the affected areas in warm water daily with a liquid unscented & mild castile soap. Follow up by rinsing with cold water. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel. If you are not shaving, you can gently exfoliate and start freeing any trapped hairs by using a clean, dry toothbrush to gently rub over the bumps. Do not pluck any hairs you’ve freed. You’ll just make matters worse. Finish by applying your Bevel Post-Shave Balm. Try not to touch your bumps, certainly avoid scratching or popping them.
